Heredis for Mac Review by Mic kReed, Jan 15, 2020
Genealogy Software Reviews For Mac Os
I used Heredis when I first got a Mac in 2014. It looked lovely but then started to crash constantly for no apparent reason. Support were hopeless at resolving the problem, so I ditched it.
I thought I’d try it again and so bought Heredis 2020 yesterday. What an idiot!
It looks horrible these days compared to a few years ago. I tried to import my Gedcom. I’ve passed it through Gedcom validators and they all say it’s okay. Rootmagic imports it okay, so does FTM, and a couple of others

Heredis fails and says see the log file for why. Pressing the button to see it has no effect. SO I can’t see the log file
Oh, and it suddenly puts up messages in French which isn’t good although I can read it but that’s not the point.
I tried to contact support but th link on the menu doesn’t work. Best backup software for mac.
What a disaster. Fortunately I paid only 50% of the normal price a mere $30 US, but they have it, and I don’t. Nor do I have software that is any use at all.
My experinece may not be typical, but I certainly won’t be going near it again.

Biggest Pro: None whatsoever
Biggest Con: Doesn’t import a perfectly good Gedcom
When you are first beginning to research your family tree, it seems easy enough to remember who you are researching and what you have accomplished. However, quickly you discover that you have a number of individuals and are beginning to compile a list of research tasks that you need to accomplish. Before you get too many names and records, you will want to consider acquiring a genealogy software package. The alphabetically-arranged chart below gives a highlight of features to consider and costs of different programs. You may want to start with one of the free programs for your system (or see if the program you are interested in has a “trial” version) before committing money to a specific program. When you are just beginning you may not yet know how you feel about the different entry screen interfaces or if you want to have multiple source citations or be able to create a Web page. Using one of the free, or trial, versions of software allows you to learn what you like and don’t like about the software you think you may be interested in purchasing.
