The world of social media is subjected to new fads with increasing frequency and these days anonymity seems to be the thing. An app called ‘tbh’ (short for ‘to be honest’) has emerged as a new winner in the anonymous posting sphere as it recently propelled to the top of iOS App Store charts.
Anonymous messaging apps like Yik Yak and recently popular Sarahah lost their charm majorly because they became a go-to avenue for cyber bullies, but tbh plans to keep things positive.
The tbh app was developed by California-based Midnight Labs and was released on August 3, 2017, in Georgia.
If not, i would like to request an app for mac/pc like the iphone app to cast. There does not seem to be a good way to cast game play on the quest on any device TBH. The app, which failed, was targeted toward teenagers and followed a weird kind of quiz format. Sadly, the teenage definition of TBH is currently on the way out.
“tbh is an app for giving anonymous feedback to friends. Unlike other anonymous apps, all the feedback is positive. We built tbh because we believe that social networks should make us feel better about ourselves—not worse,” tbh website reads.

While other social anonymous posting apps would let users fill out a descriptive message by themselves, tbh presents users with objective questions that are bound to garner a positive response.
Once you fire up the app, it adds your friends either via your phone contacts, via friends username, via friend-of-friends or by joining a school network.

So, instead of letting users choose what to write, the app creates fun and uplifting polls about their friends. Something like ‘Who is most likely to be president?’ and ‘Best person to go on a road trip with’.
The question is followed by four names from the list of the user’s friend and they’ve to select the most appropriate one.

The app also lets users submit their own poll questions, which should be positive in nature and surface on the app following a review, which usually takes 48 hours.
Essentially, the app discourages negative thoughts and hopes to fill their user’s life with positive comments while keeping the identity of the commenter anonymous.
Gems in tbh
Every time you get picked in a poll, a gem is assigned to you. Gems come in three colors — blue, pink and purple. If a boy picked you in the poll, you’ll receive a blue gem, you’ll receive a pink gem if a girl picks you and a purple one if a non-gender person picks you.
These gems can then be used to unlock more poll questions and upcoming features.
To keep things interesting, the tbh app only allows users to answer twelve poll questions every hour — a good way to ensure that users don’t overdose on the new viral app.

Where is it Available?
The app is currently only available on iOS with an Android release planned for later. The app is currently only available in the following states in the US:
“We will be expanding to more states soon. We’re working hard to support a national audience,” tbh website reads.
While the app is only about two months old and is still working on expanding to other states, countries and operating systems as well as new features such as direct messages among users, it seems more promising that apps like Sarahah which had eventually turned out to be a playground for cyber bullies.
